Outlook for September

Fall is in the air, and with fall comes a more favorable wildfire outlook from the Predictive Services National Interagency Fire Center for September 2026. The risk of wildfire is always elevated in rural Southern Utah due to dry, windy conditions, low fuels moisture, lightening, and human activity. Therefore, while the worst of the Utah fire season appears to have passed, constant vigilance is required to minimize risks, in addition to ongoing fuels reduction and management.

After 41 days, as of this date, Utah's largest fire of 2026, the Widemouth 2 Fire, continues to burn, having scorched 130,000 acres and claimed the lives of two Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane helicopter operators dropping water on the fire. The estimated cost of the fire at this time is $35.7 million. In total, almost 500,000 acres have burned in Utah during the current fire season.

As temperatures cool, Dammeron Valley residents are encouraged to take advantage of the nicer weather to reduce the fuel burden on their properties.
