HISTORY

On November 1st, 2021, the Utah Washington County Commission introduced and passed resolution R-2021-2847 proposing creation of the Western Fire Special Service District (WFSSD). The resolution called for combining three existing Special Service Districts (Diamond Valley Fire District, Dammeron Valley Fire District, and a portion of the Northwest Fire District) into a single new Western Fire District, at which time the current districts would be dissolved. Numerous meetings were held by Washington County representatives with members of the existing district boards, community members, and fire chiefs of the affected communities in 2022.

In March of 2023, the Washington County Commission appointed five area residents to an interim board, assigned the task of developing a transition plan and governance recommendations for the WFSSD Board of Directors when they begin their work in 2024. The WFSSD Board of Directors will adopt a budget for the new district and oversee management of the assets of the five fire stations within the new district, working closely with the fire chief.
